@翻了个译,MTI专业辅导@翻了个译,MTI专业辅导AMcKinseystudyshowedthatifin1998wecould'veclosedourlong-standingstudentachievementgapsbetweenstudentsofdifferentethnicbackgroundsorstudentsofdifferentincomelevels,by2008,ourGDP--ouruntappedeconomicgains--couldhavegoneupbymorethan500billiondollars.Thosesamegapsin2008,betweenourstudentshereintheUSandthoseacrosstheworld,mayhavedeprivedoureconomyofupto2.3trilliondollarsofeconomicoutput.Butbeyondeconomics,numbersandfigures,Ithinkthere'sasimplerreasonthatthismatters,asimplerreasonforfixingoursystem.It'sthatinatruedemocracy,liketheoneweprideourselvesonhaving--andsometimesrightfullyso--achild'sfutureshouldnotbepredeterminedbythecircumstancesoftheirbirth.Apubliceducationsystemshouldnotcreateawiderbottomandmorenarrowtop.Someofuscansometimesthinkthatthesethingsaren'tthatclosetohome,buttheyareifwebroadenourview,becausealeakyfaucetinourkitchen,brokenradiatorinourhallway,thosepartsofthehousethatwealwayssaywe'regoingtogettonextweek,they'redevaluingourwholeproperty.Insteadofconstantlylookingawaytosolutionslikeprivatizationorthecharterschoolmovementtosolveourproblems,whydon'twetakeadeeperlookatpubliceducation,trytotakemoreprideinitandmaybeuseittosolvesomeofoursocialproblems.Whydon'twetrytoreclaimthepromiseofpubliceducationandrememberthatit'sourgreatestcollectiveresponsibility?Luckilysomeofourcommunitiesaredoingjustthat.Thehugeteacherstrikesinthespringof2019inDenverandLA--theyweresuccessfulbecauseofcommunitysupportforthingslikesmallerclasssizesandgettingthingsintoschoolslikemorecounselorsinadditiontoteacherpay.
