Designation:F257306(Reapproved 2014)An American National StandardStandard Specification forLow Velocity Resilient Material Projectile1This standard is issued under the fixed designation F2573;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This specification covers critical characteristics of lowvelocity resilient material projectiles(herein referred to asLVRM projectiles)made of a resilient material, and shall havea diameter no smaller than 20 mm(0.7874 in)and no greaterthan 30 mm(1.18 in.),with a hardness no greater than 75 Shore00 in accordance with Specification D2240.This specificationhelps define whether a projectile is suitable for use with a lowvelocity projectile marker(herein referred to as LVP marker asdefined in Specification F2574).The weight of the LVRMprojectile is not to exceed 4.0 g.Furthermore, this specificationestablishes minimum warning and package labeling to helpensure that the LVRM projectiles are used in a safe manner andthat the risk of injury is reduced.1.2 A LVRM projectile is not a paintball as defined inSection 2.1.2 of Specification F1979.1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard. The values given in parentheses are for informationonly.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any, associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and to determine theapplicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.2.Referenced Documents2.1 device is some-times referred to as a low velocity projectile gun as defined inSpecification F2574.3.1.2 low velocity resilient material ballany spherical, ovoid,or ellipsoidal object. The term“ball also includes anymultisided object formed by connecting planes into a generallyspherical ovoid,or ellipsoidal shape that is designated orintended to be used as a ball.A“ball”can be a LVRMprojectile.3.1.3 low velocity resilient material projectileobject pro-pelled by means of a discharge mechanism capable of storingand releasing energy under the control of the operator com-prised of a resilient material, and have a diameter no smallerthan 20 mm(0.7874 in)and no greater than 30 mm(1.18 in.).The hardness of the LVRM projectile is to be no greater than75 Shore 00 in accordance with Specification D2240.Theweight of the LVRM projectile is not to exceed 4.0 g.3.1.4 rangemaximum distance to which an object may bepropelled, whether limited by energy or an obstacle.3.1.5 shore Requirements4.1 Must be made of a resilient material.1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee F08 on SportsEquipment,Playing Surfaces, and Facilities and is the direct responsibility ofSubcommittee F08.24 on Paintball and Equipment.Current edition approved May 1,2014.Published September 2014.Originallyapproved in 2006.Last previous edition approved in 2010 as F2573
