IntroductionTheLet’sGo4ePlacementTestsaredesignedtohelpteachersaccuratelyplacestudentsintothecorrectlevelorclassbasedontheirexistingknowledgeofEnglish.TherearetwoplacementtestsforLet’sGo4e:PlacementTestAandPlacementTestB.PlacementTestAwillhelpplacestudentsintoalevelfromLet’sBegintoLevel3andisfoundontheTestCenterCD-ROMoftheselevels.Ifstudentsreceiveaperfect(ornearlyperfect)scoreonPlacementTestA,theyshouldtakePlacementTestB.PlacementTestBwillhelpplacestudentsintoalevelfromLevels4–6andisfoundontheTestCenterCD-ROMoftheselevels.Studentsareassessedonallfourskillsateachlevelandthetestisdividedintotwosections:SpeakingandListeningandthenReadingandWriting.Grammaticalstructuresandvocabularyincreaseindifficultythroughoutthetest.Astudentatalowerlevelwillprobablynotbeabletocompletethefinalpagesofthetestanditisbettertoallowthisstudenttostopifheorsheisnotreadyforhigherlevels.AllowstudentsapproximatelytenminutesfortheSpeakingandListeningsectionanduptotwentyminutesfortheReadingandWritingsection.SpeakingandListeningWhenevaluatingoralproficiencyitisimportanttosetuparelaxedandstress-freeenvironment.Thebestoutcomeswillcomefromachildwhofeelsconfidentandengaged.TheSpeakingandListeningpartofthisplacementtestconsistsoffifteenoralquestionswhichincreaseindifficulty,bothinlanguagestructuresandcognitivechallenge.Encouragechildrentoanswerinfullsentencessothatyoucanmeasuretheirabilitytousedifferentverbtensesintheirspeaking.Ifachildstopsbeingabletoanswerquestionsatanystageintheoralinterview,thenhaltthispartofthetestandmarkaccordingtothequestionsalreadyanswered.Thequestionswillgiveyouageneraloverviewofthestudent’scommunicativecompetencewhichshouldbebalancedagainstthescoreandlevelintherestoftheplacementtest.ReadingandWritingTheseskillsarecombinedasmuchaspossibleinordertoevaluatestudents’generalreadingcomprehensionandproductivewritingskills.Studentsareexpectedtowritecompletesentencesusingthecorrectstructures.Toachievethetotalnumberofpointsavailableinthewritingquestions,thestudent’swritingshouldmeetthefollowingcriteria:•Thewritingisfocused,well-organized,andsufficientlylong.•Thestudentcommunicatesclearlywithfew,ifany,grammaticalmistakes.•Thestudentshowsgoodcommandofspellingandmechanics.•Thestudent’shandwritingiseasilylegible.GrammarandvocabularyGrammaticalstructuresandvocabularyareintegratedallthewaythroughthistest.EveryquestionevaluatesanunderlyingstructureorwordknowledgeandthisreflectsthegeneralmethodologyoftheLet’sGo4eseriesasawhole.Grammarandvocabularycannotbeseparatedfromthefourskills,asthisishowlanguageisproperlyformedintherealworld.ScoringGuideScoreRecommendedLevelofLet’sGo4e0-29Let’sGo4eLevel430-61Let’sGo4eLevel562-100Let’sGo4eLevel6PlacementTestBTestInstructionsTestInstructions©OxfordUniversityPress.Permissiongrantedtoreproduceforinstructionaluse.
