Designation:D421622Standard Specification forRigid Poly(Vinyl Chloride)(PVC)and Related PVC andChlorinated Poly(Vinyl Chloride)(CPVC)Building ProductsCompounds1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D4216;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision,the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the U.S.Department of Defense.1.Scope*1.1 This specification covers rigid plastic PVC and CPVCExterior compounds composed of poly(vinyl chloride),chlori-nated poly(vinyl chloride),vinyl chloride copolymers or vinylchloride blends,and the necessary compound ingredientsintended for use in making building products.The compound-ing ingredients are permitted to consist of lubricants,stabilizers,nonpoly(vinyl chloride)resin modifiers,colorantsor pigments,or both,and inorganic fillers.1.2 This specification is intended to provide classification ofbase compounds used to manufacture PVC and CPVC exteriorbuilding products.It is acceptable to determine physicalproperties by evaluating compounds of any color.NOTE1Two year weathering studies,without specific requirementsfor color change and physical property change,are recommended for allcolors of new compounds and compounds for new applications to providethe basis for agreement between producer and buyer on the suitability ofthe compound for the intended application.1.3 The requirements in this specification are intended forqualification,as well as for quality control of compounds usedto manufacture building products.They are not applicable tofinished building products.1.4 It will be necessary,in special cases,to select specificcompounds for unusual applications that require considerationof other properties not covered in this specification.1.5 The rate of burning test,Test Method D635,is used inthis specification only as a screening test for identification ofcertain properties of the PVC compound;there is no flamma-bility test or flammability requirement for the compound.1.6 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded asstandard.The values given in parentheses are for informationonly.1.7 The following safety hazards caveat pertains only to thetest methods portion,Section 11,of this specification:Thisstandard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns,if any,associated with its use.It is the responsibility of the userof this standard to establish appropriate safety,health,andenvironmental practices and determine the applicability ofregulatory limitations prior to use.NOTE2There is no known ISO equivalent to this standard.1.8 The text of this standard references notes and footnotes,which provide explanatory material.These notes and footnotes(excluding those in tables and figures)shall not be consideredas requirements of this standard.1.9 It is possible that rigid PVC recycle plastic meeting therequirements of this specification will be usable in someapplications.Refer to the specific requirements in
