OrganicfarmingAllfoodsoldasorganicmustbeproducedinaccordancewithstandardssetoutinEuropeanlawonorganicproduction.Thisrequiresfoodsoldasorganictooriginatefromgrowers,processorsandimporterswhoareregisteredandapprovedbyorganicinspectionbodiesonthebasisofarigorousannualinspection.InmostMemberStates,includingtheUK,registrationandcontroloforganicoperatorsiscarriedoutbyprivatesectorinspectionbodiesapprovedbyandactingunderthecontrolofthenationalgovernmentoroneofitsagencies.IntheUKcurrentlytherearenineprivatesectorinspectionbodies.TheControlBodiesensuretheintegrityoftheorganicproductbeingplacedonthemarket.TheControlBodiesmustinspecteachoftheirlicenseesatleastonceayearandflagupanyareaswheretheoperatorisnotcomplyingwiththeRegulations.TheControlBodieswillneedtotakeactionwhereseriousbreachesoftheRegulationarefoundorwherepreviousfindingshavebeenignoredThereisanadditionalrequirementwithintheEURegulation,implementedfromJanuary2014,,toundertakeanadditional10%ofvisitspercontrolbody.Alongsidethisthereisarequirementtoundertake10%unannouncedvisits.TheUKinspectionbodiesaresubjectannualapprovalonthebasisofanexaminationbytheUnitedKingdomAccreditationService(UKAS).Theenforcementauthorities(LocalAuthorities)havethepowerstoenforcetheorganicregulationsatthepointofsale.Labelsonfoodsoldas'organic'mustindicatetheorganiccertificationbodythattheprocessororpackerisregisteredwith.Thelabelsmust,asaminimum,includeacodenumberthatdenotestheapprovedcertificationbody.Thenameortrademark(logo)ofthecertificationbodymayalso,butdoesnothavetobe,shownonthelabel.Itisnotalwayspossibletomakeproductsentirelyfromorganicingredients,sincenotallingredientsareavailableinorganicform.Manufacturersoforganicfoodarepermittedtousespecificnon-organicingredientsprovidedthattheorganicingredientsmakeupatleast95%ofthefood..DEFRAWearetheUKgovernmentdepartmentresponsibleforpolicyandregulationsonenvironmental,foodandruralissues.Ourprioritiesaretogrowtheruraleconomy,improvetheenvironmentandsafeguardanimalandplanthealth.SOILASSOCIATION...
