应该说，“牛顿苹果树”是一棵科学精神树，让它生长在大学里真是再合适不过了。或许，大学生从听说牛顿的故事，到亲眼目睹牛顿苹果树，其对科学精神的理解一定更加深刻，这将鼓励大学生用孩子般的好奇心去探求一个个科学奥秘。剑桥大学向李嘉诚捐赠“牛顿苹果树”可谓用心良苦，而李嘉诚把这棵树转赠给自己捐赠建成的汕头大学更是寓意深远。

既然“牛顿苹果树”不适合在汕头生长，汕头大学何不向李先生明说？同时，李先生何不向剑桥大学婉拒？我们不妨坚持“牛顿苹果树”所包含的科学精神，敢于实事求是，而不要不好意思，也不要担心剑桥大学不高兴——其实他们未必不高兴。
